One person died in a fire that broke out at a restaurant on Senter Road early Wednesday morning, according to the San Jose Fire Department.

The one-alarm blaze was first reported at about 5:10 a.m. at the Lẩu Hải Sản restaurant in the 2500 block of Senter Road north of Umbarger Road. Firefighters arrived to the sight of heavy smoke and flames emanating from the building.

Firefighters needed about 45 minutes to bring the fire under control, and they limited the fire to the restaurant. In their search of the property, they found a person who had died in an outdoor enclosure attached to the restaurant.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but evidence indicates that it started outside then spread to the restaurant and onto its roof, SJFD spokesperson Erica Ray said.

Authorities have not identified the person who died. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office said the person has not been formally identified nor has their next of kin been notified.

The person’s association with the location was also unclear, but Ray said there was no indication from the restaurant owner that anyone associated with the business was missing.
