Authorities are asking for the public’s help in finding a vehicle involved in a Monday night hit-and-run crash in Somerville that left a 72-year-old man with life-threatening injuries.

The pedestrian was struck before 8:40 p.m. as he attempted to cross William McGrath Highway, or Route 28, with groceries near the Broadway intersection, Massachusetts State Police said.

Troopers are now seeking a white Ford Transit Connect, with a model year sometime between 2014 and 2021, officials said in a statement. The driver of the van struck the pedestrian and fled the scene on McGrath Highway toward Cambridge, according to authorities.

“Very specific to this van, and things that will cause this to stand out among other Ford Transit Connects, are the amount of side windows and the large sunroof. These vans are usually outfitted as utility vehicles without side windows or a sunroof,” state police said. “The vehicle will most likely have damage to the driver side headlight area (bumper, hood, and/or fender).”
