Dog Hit By Truck Monday Night Euthanized; Police Seek Owner

SARASOTA, FL — Sarasota police are looking for the owner of a dog hit by a car in the 1900 block of Central Avenue Monday around 8:30 p.m.

The dog was euthanized Tuesday night as a result of her injuries, police said.

Police believe she gave birth to a litter of puppies shortly before being hit.

The dog was dark brown with white fur on her chest. She was wearing a pink collar with no name plant or owner contact information, police said.

Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office’s Animal Services department also responded to the accident. They scanned the dog but didn’t find a microchip, police said.

Witnesses told police that someone driving a white pick-up truck hit the dog and left the area. Officers canvassed the area, speaking with homeowners to see if they recognized the dog, but found no leads.

The dog is being cared for by Sarasota County Animal Services, who confirmed that she most likely had puppies before the accident.
