Nearly 800 new COVID cases in KY, four deaths. Positivity rate up for fifth straight day.

On Tuesday, Gov. Andy Beshear reported 799 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Kentucky over the previous 24 hours.

The new cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 434,148 (about one case per 10.1 Kentucky residents).

Officials reported four coronavirus deaths (includes one audit death), raising the commonwealth’s death toll to 6,261 (1.4 percent fatality rate).

The rolling seven-day positivity rate rose for the fifth straight day from Monday’s 3.16 percent to 3.20 percent on Tuesday.

Hospitalizations increased by 25 patients to 405, while the number of people in intensive care fell by eight to 96. Victims on ventilators decreased by one person to 53.

Since the onset of the pandemic, 21,306 (4.9 percent) people have been hospitalized, with 4,392 (one percent) patients treated in intensive care.

At least 50,513 (11.6 percent) Kentuckians have recovered from the virus.

Officials said nearly 1.6 million Kentuckians have received at least one coronavirus vaccine.
