The Oklahoma County Detention Center is currently investigating the death of a 65-year-old female inmate.

According to officials, Christa Sullivan, an inmate housed in the suicide watch unit was pronounced dead just before 10:00 p.m., Tuesday night.

They claim the woman was observed by staff to have a sudden drooping of the arm. EMSA began lifesaving efforts, but the inmate later died. Officials with the jail say the woman had a history of physical and mental health issues before entering the facility, and a prior attempt to obtain medical release was unsuccessful.

The medical examiner will work to determine an exact cause of death, but foul play and suicide are not suspected at this time.

This comes as the jail is already facing a laundry list of problems. That includes a recent deadly hostage situation. Jail officials blamed that incident on a lack of staffing.

That then triggered the jail’s medical provider, TurnKey Health to threaten their exit if staffing shortages weren’t addressed immediately.

The detention center has since announced they will be hosting a job fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 15th looking to hire both clerical and officer positions.

TurnKey says after recent changes were made, they do plan on continuing their contract with the facility.
