Omaha Police identify the woman found dead inside a submerged car in Carter Lake as 22-year-old Nyahon Thuok.
Thuok was a psychology major at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
It was around one Wednesday morning when officers were patrolling the area and discovered a car underwater. Lt. Allen Straub with Omaha Police said the car’s headlights and taillights were on.
"Occasionally we will find a vehicle in the water like this... we hope, we always hope there is nobody inside," Straub said. "Unfortunately, there are times when we find people inside. And it is hard, it is sad. We always hope that we never find anyone in the car, but it is sad"
Police said there is no sign of foul play, but they haven't released any other circumstances surrounding the incident.
KETV NewsWatch 7 spoke with Thuok's church on Wednesday. Members said the pastor was meeting with the family. The family asked for privacy.
