SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — We return again to an amazing picture book entitled Images of America: South Windsor, compiled in 2017 by Claire Lobdell for the Wood Memorial Library & Museum. The book, containing 128 pages of fascinating photos from the town's history, is available for purchase at the library's museum store here.

On page 77, we find a circa 1870 photo of a schoolhouse on Dart Hill Rd. Erected in 1860 to replace an earlier school building on the same site, the one-room structure served as a school until Wapping Grammar School opened in 1953.

Located at 242 Dart Hill Rd., the building has been extensively remodeled and is currently a private residence. Here is a contemporary view, courtesy of Realtor.com.
