A woman was found dead in her St. Paul apartment on Tuesday and police began a homicide investigation.

Someone called 911 about 5:30 p.m. after checking on the woman and discovering her on the floor of the apartment on Front Avenue near Western Avenue in the North End, said Sgt. Natalie Davis, a police spokeswoman.

Police said the woman suffered a fatal wound and the cause of her death is under investigation.

“We have more questions right now than we have answers,” Davis said. “We don’t know how this woman died. We don’t know why she died and we don’t know who did it.”

She said homicide investigators are determined to find the answers and asked anyone with information to call police at 651-266-5650. No one was under arrest as of Tuesday night.

Police previously responded to the apartment three times in the last year — there were two reports of “domestic” incidents and one of criminal damage to property, Davis said. Two of the calls to police were earlier this month.

The homicide was the 10th of the year in St. Paul.
