ROCHESTER, N.Y. — People of the Islamic faith will be fasting for the next month as part of Ramadan.

Muslims observe the month of Ramadan to mark the moment Allah gave the first chapters of the Quran to the prophet Muhammad in the year 610.

Those who take part will fast from dawn to dusk.

Ramadan is about self-discipline and having empathy for those in need.

The Islamic Center of Rochester is handing out food out to those in need until the end of Ramadan on May 12.

You can pick a meal up at the center on Westfall Road.
