PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- Rhode Island State Police arrested an ACI correctional officer for allegedly sending indecent material to a minor online.

State police said Thomas Nolan, 56, of Warwick, was arrested on two counts of electronically disseminating indecent material to a minor. The arrest came after an investigation by members of the Rhode Island Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

Nolan allegedly engaged in communication with a person whom he believed to be a 14-year-old boy.

“The conversation became sexually explicit and Nolan allegedly electronically disseminated indecent material to a person whom he believed to be a 14-year-old male,” authorities said in a release.

Nolan has been a correctional officer with the Department of Corrections since February 1990, according to State police.

“At this time there is no evidence of any involvement with other minors, however we continue to investigate and ask that anyone with information regarding Mr. Nolan contact the Rhode Island State Police/Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force at (401) 921-1170,” Assistant Detective Commander Captain Robert Creamer said.

Nolan was arraigned Tuesday and released on $50,000 bail with conditions of no unsupervised contact with minors and limited internet use.
