State lawmakers urge Clark County to consider using federal stimulus to build River Ridge connector
Two state senators are urging Clark County officials to use some of their federal stimulus money to study the possibility of a new, limited-access highway connecting River Ridge Commerce Park with the Clark Regional Airport and Interstate 65.
Sen. Ron Grooms and Sen. Chris Garten, both Republicans who represent Southern Indiana, said the connector would be "transformational" in a letter they wrote to local officials.
Jack Coffman, president of the Clark County Commission, said that body and the Clark County Council are considering the idea, along with many other projects in need of funding.
"In order to take on a large project like the connector road, we would definitely be in need of funding from the state for that," Coffman said.
If approved, such a project could cost an estimated $50 million, Coffman said. Grooms said he is working to secure state funding, including revenue from aviation fuel taxes.
