Two members of a third generation of Detroit musical royalty have paired up for a new project.

Singer Juan Winans and his sister, actress Deborah Joy Winans, have teamed for the upbeat, feel-good song “Never on My Own,” the first peek at Juan Winans’ upcoming album “Legacy.”

Hailing from the prolific Winans gospel family, Juan and Deborah Joy previously teamed up for theatrical roles as their famous uncle and aunt — BeBe and CeCe Winans — in a 2019 theater production.

The new track, which debuted Tuesday with an audio-only YouTube clip, borrows from the chorus of the Burt Bacharach-Carol Bayer Sager song “On My Own,” most famously made a hit in 1986 by Patti Labelle and Michael McDonald.

“It’s a song we grew up loving and listening to,” Juan Winans said in a statement. “It was fun and meaningful taking that beautiful melody and repurposing it to spread love and encouragement in a different way.”

Juan Winans’ professional music career stretches back to the ‘90s, and his latest music is the follow-up to last year’s chart-topping gospel hit “It Belongs to Me.”

Deborah Joy Winans is best known for playing Charity Greenleaf-Satterlee in the TV series “Greenleaf,” the popular megachurch-family drama that aired on the Oprah Winfrey Network.
