A third mass vaccination site is officially in Savannah. They’re at Gulfstream, the Savannah Civic Center, and now the Georgia Southern Armstrong campus. In the race to get everyone vaccinated, local leaders say the new site makes a mass vaccination site accessible to everyone in Savannah."We want to make sure all areas of Savannah are covered from the north to the south to the east to the west," Savannah District Six Alderman, Kurtis Purtee said.The new site on Savannah’s Southside puts a mass vaccination site in everyone’s neighborhood.Purtee said, "this is much needed. A lot of times folks on the Southside think that we are kind of the forgotten folks on savannah being that we are so far removed from downtown but this is all about accessibility and opportunity.""This site makes it even easier for folks on the Southside just like the downtown site makes it easier. Folks can run during their lunchtime and get it. It’s the collaboration that causes Chatham County to be strong," Chatham County Chairman Chester Ellis said.The site is a partnership between Georgia Southern University, Gulfstream, Southcoast Health, Chatham County, the City of Savannah, and many others. By spreading the vaccination sites out across the county, local leaders say there’s no excuse for people to not get the shot. "Our way out of this is to be vaccinated. We especially need our young people our younger people to take advantage of this opportunity to get a covid shot," Savannah Mayor Van Johnson said. Anyone is able to get vaccinated at this site on Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.You do need an appointment, to make one, click here.
