NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Metro police have made an arrest following a North Nashville shooting that killed a 3-year-old girl and injured several others.

The shooting took place at the Cumberland View Apartments near the intersection of 25th Avenue North and Dowlan Street.

According to Metro police, 3-year-old Jamayla Marlowe was shot in the back and her 2-year-old half-sister, Antania Butler, was shot in the arm. The two girls were inside of a car that was in a parking lot when a shootout erupted between several individuals. Both girls were shot when the car was caught in crossfire as the driver attempted to drive away.

The girls were driven by their mother to Nashville General Hospital and were transferred to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, where Jamayla died from her gunshot wound.

Police say 23-year-old Thomas Winston Jr., also known as Thomas Mitchelle, drove to the same hospital in a blue Hyundai Elantra for treatment of a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He was transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and remains hospitalized.

In addition, police report 26-year-old Deandre Dean was dropped off at Centennial Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his leg as a result of the Cumberland View gunfire.

Police say Winston arrived in the public housing development in the Hyundai as a large group of people had gathered in a parking lot. Winston walked in between two buildings. Shots were then fired from that direction across the parking lot. At least three other people shot back.

Winston proceeded to get into the Hyundai, dropped a bloody pistol on the pavement, and fled the area. As he drove away, one man from the crowd fired multiple shots at the Hyundai.

Police have identified 24-year-old Anthony Sharp as the man who fired shots at the Hyundai. He was spotted at the Cumberland View Apartments Tuesday wearing the same clothing he was seen wearing Monday night. Police arrested Sharp on a charge of felony aggravated assault.

Dean reportedly refused to speak to detectives and was booked into jail on six unrelated outstanding warrants, including parole violation, failure to appear in court, two counts of theft, and two counts of domestic assault.

Winston remains under investigation for his actions and will be arrested upon his discharge from the hospital on outstanding unrelated warrants charging him with felony aggravated assault and vandalism.
