Driver dies in I-19 wreck near Pima Mine Road

TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — The Arizona Department of Public Safety investigated a deadly wreck on Interstate 19 near Pima Mine Road Tuesday. Northbound I-19 was shut down for hours before reopening in the 1 p.m. hour.

A tractor-trailer was traveling northbound on I-19 in the left lane when the trailer lost its left rear tires. One of the tires traveled through the median and struck vehicle traveling southbound. The southbound vehicle, came to rest in the median facing south. The SUV sustained major damage on the top driver side of the vehicle and the driver was deceased on scene.

According to the agency, one of a northbound tractor-trailer's rear tires came off, crossed the median and hit an SUV that was heading southbound. The driver of the SUV died, and the vehicle stopped in the median facing south.

There were no other vehicles involved and no other injuries.
