PHOENIX – A baby girl was hospitalized after her mother left her in a car in Phoenix for more than four hours Monday, authorities said.

Police and fire personnel responded to a call about an injured infant around 1 p.m. at a home near 83rd Avenue and Camelback Road, the Phoenix Police Department said Tuesday.

Officers learned that the mother left her 4-month-old girl in a vehicle parked in the garage at 8:30 a.m., police said.

The baby was taken to the hospital in serious condition, but her condition has improved, police said.

Monday’s high temperature in Phoenix was 92 degrees.

No other information was immediately available.

The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made.

According to KidsAndCars.org, there was one hot car death in Arizona last year after four such incidents in 2019.

The state ranks fourth in the nation with 46 child hot car deaths since 1994, according to the nonprofit group.
