University of Alabama to honor DeVonta Smith, championship football team during A-Day Game

Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith and the University of Alabama's 2020 college football national championship team will be honored at Saturday's A-Day Game in Tuscaloosa.

Kickoff is set for noon at Bryant-Denny Stadium for the intra-squad game, which wraps up UA's spring football practice. ESPN will televise.

Cloudy skies with temperatures in the upper 60s are expected for the game, with a 30 percent chance of rain.

Smith will be presented with the Heisman Trophy at halftime, while the national champions will be honored after the game. Coach Nick Saban and quarterback Mac Jones are scheduled to speak during the post-game honors and the 2020 national championship flag will be raised inside the stadium.

Stadium capacity has been set at 50 percent, or about 50,000 fans, with gates opening at 10 a.m. In a news release, UA said that facial coverings will be required for entry into the stadium and must be worn at all times, except when attendees are eating or drinking.

On-campus public parking will be free for A-Day with lots opening at 8 a.m. No Crimson Ride shuttles will run.

Pregame festivities will begin at 10:15 a.m. with the Walk of Fame ceremony at Denny Chimes on the Quad. The public is invited to watch as captains from the 2019 and 2020 teams leave prints of their hands and cleats in the concrete for permanent display. 

Fans can line the Walk of Champions at the north end of the stadium at 10:50 a.m. to cheer as UA players and coaches arrive by bus and walk into the stadium.

UA will distribute 10,000 Alabama football posters with 5,000 available when the gates open and another 5,000 ready for fans as they leave the stadium.

Alabama is scheduled to open the 2021 season on Sept. 4 against the University of Miami at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

The Crimson Tide's first home game will be Sept. 11 against Mercer.  The rest of the home schedule includes Southern Miss on Sept. 25, Ole Miss on Oct. 2,  Tennessee on Oct. 23, LSU on Nov. 6, New Mexico State on Nov. 13 and Arkansas on Nov. 20.
