The Villages of Indiana, the state's largest private child and family welfare agency, announced Tuesday it had named Shannon Schumacher its new president and CEO.

Schumacher has over 20 years of experience in nonprofits and human services, according to a news release, most recently as vice president of strategy, innovation and clinical services with Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana. She first joined the organization as a clinician in 1999 and served as the organization's chief operations officer from 2012-18.

Schumacher holds a Bachelor's degree in psychological science from Ball State University and a Master's of social work from Indiana University.

"I’m looking forward to the next chapter and how my leadership can positively impact The Villages statewide staff," Schumacher said, in a written statement, "and more importantly the families and children served."

Shannon Schumacher has been named the next CEO and president of The Villages of Indiana. She succeeds Sharon Pierce, who held the role for three decades prior to her retirement.

Schumacher will join the agency April 19. She succeeds Sharon Pierce, who announced her retirement last December after nearly 30 years in the role.

"I have great confidence in the board’s decision to hire Shannon, a proven and passionate leader, as she takes the leadership role for those we serve in our communities, in our state, and in our nation," Pierce said in a written statement. "I am certain Shannon will continue the mantra 'Championing Families for Children.'"

The nonprofit serves over 3,000 Hoosier children and their families each day. To learn more about The Villages, visit villageskids.org.
