Gunman Dead After Shooting At High School In Tennessee, Officer Injured

Yesterday afternoon, a student was shot and killed after firing a gun at a Police Officer who returned fire at a school in Tennessee. Officers of the Knoxville Police Department responded to reports of a ‘possibly armed male’ suspect around 3:15 p.m. at Austin-East Magnet High School. Tennessee Bureau of Investigations Director David Rausch said officers found the student in the bathroom when they arrived and ordered him to come out but he refused and fired shots prompting police to fire back.

An officer was struck at least one time and transported to the UT Medical Center with non life threatening injuries to the upper leg. The student died at the scene and has not yet been identified. One other unidentified person was detained for further investigation. Classes at the school have been cancelled for the next two days and counselors are on hand. The investigation is still ongoing and authorities don’t know the students motive.
