Brendan Thomas rolled his fifth career 800 series last week at Sunset Lanes, tossing a 300 game and 30 total strikes.

Sunset Lanes is still reeling from a pasting Brendan Thomas dished out in the Wednesday Invitational League.

And for the umpteenth time, it also showcased just how relentless he is in pounding the pocket with his explosive strike ball.

For starters, he began league play making mincemeat of the 1-3 pocket by throwing 12 straight strikes for a 300 game, and the 10th perfecto of his young career.

Next, he fired a 248 game with a total of eight strikes. So, after two games and mowing down 548 pins, he needed a 252 third game for an 800 series.

No problem, as he torched the lanes with 10 strikes and two spares for a 266 and  a stratospheric 814 series.

Not surprisingly, he racked up a total of 30 strikes, and his 814 was his third 800 this season, and eye-popping fifth in the last two years. Wow!

And if he continues this same torrid pace of throwing 800s over the next two years, he will eclipse the Washington County record of nine held by Blaine Hartley. And Thomas is still only 23-years-old!

Thomas is one of three outstanding bowlers from the Todd and Dawn Thomas bowling tree and currently has a high average of 228 at Dixie Bowl.

In other action, Trent Nay (701-276) ended a recent scoring funk in convincing fashion, Rob Carrier (691-288) had a top-notch outing, and Trevor Miller (668-242) gets ink for one of his best outings this season.

Meanwhile, Dom Gordon chalked up a season-high 660, Tim Brandt (625-220, 205, 200) was a model of consistency, and Larry Moss (623-269) who appeared as an extra in the Jeremiah Johnson movie with Robert Redford booked a great game and nice series.

Phil San Antonio (623-223) delivered another nice effort, and so did Bill Stauffer (616-224) who won Junior Nationals when he was 16, while Bill Echternkamp (660-220) squeezed out a 600.

In single game play, Lew Agius fired a 269, Will Hutchinson cruised to a 267, Gary Lee logged a 265, and Max Stayrook uncorked a 264.

Jorge Grajeda tossed a 238, Dan Sanzone pocketed a 235, Chris Westwood smacked a 219, and Tony V bagged a 205.

Women enjoyed a great week on the lanes as Ashley Thomas (688-243) set the pace, and Annette Chugg put together clean games of 210 and 192, along with a 223 for a standout 625 series and a total of 13 strikes.

Sherri Snarr averaged 203 between Sunset (625) and Dixie (598-226), and sparked by a 243, Bryeann Barckley tossed a 617 set, while Margie O'Neill (618-235) continues putting up terrific scores.

Meanwhile, a first-rate effort by Susan Hill (570) included a clean 219 and 18 total strikes, Dianna Swart (561-216) had her A--game going, and Ann Rasmusen (538-218) dialed up some quality scores.

And seeing the scores Jean Frost (528-208) keeps putting up helps explain why she's the best known nonagenarian bowler in St. George, Brenda Brooks (517) captures her first ink, and Angie Choate KO'd 509 pins.

In single game action, Kara Kopf rolled a 228, Debbie Lehnen garnered a 226, and the vastly improved Sheila Green tossed a 206.
