LOWELL — An unidentified man who was struck by a car on Merrimack Street near Cabot Street on Tuesday morning was flown to a Boston-area trauma center with serious injuries, according to police.

Emergency crews were called to the 600 block of Merrimack Street about 11:18 a.m., for a report of a pedestrian struck, and arrived to find an adult male suffering from injuries, according to Capt. Mark LeBlanc, who said the driver involved remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

The pedestrian was flown by MedFlight helicopter to a Boston-area trauma center. Police closed off a portion of Merrimack Street so the Lowell Police Traffic Unit could investigate the accident scene.

No charges have been filed, but that investigation remains ongoing, according to LeBlanc.

No additional information was immediately available.
