BABYLON, NY — Everybody has a favorite teacher — maybe it's a teacher who went out of their way to make one student's day or a teacher who brightens up a classroom, whether virtually or in-person, every day.

One teacher who deserves a shout-out is Ms. Diana Orsini, a teacher Babylon Memorial Grade School. She was nominated by Fumi Otomo.

My son attends Babylon Memorial Grade School. He has been home learning virtually for almost a year now. The school district was not prepared. The final months of his third grade education was pretty non-existent. I was very concerned for the fall. Our district gave families the option for a full 5 day week return or full virtual. We opted for full virtual for medical reasons. My son was assigned a new teacher, Miss Diana Orsini. My husband and I were concerned since she was a new teacher and would have to take on a completely new system of educating children fully virtually 5 days a week. I have to say that she has been doing an amazing job. The class started off with about a dozen children. Some opted to go back to school full time after the first trimester leaving 9 students. She keeps them engaged all day. A few weeks into the school year there were students that were quarantined that were coming in and out of the class. It was very disruptive but she rolled with the punches and with a lot of patience, she endured explaining the “virtual” rules over and over again as students came and went. My son has had such a great experience this year that he chose not to return for the last trimester of the year. Most of the students in her class are staying in the class. It has been that wonderful.

Congratulations to Ms. Orsini! Thank you for all that you do!
