A health department investigation determined the cocktail bar was unable to legally use the building's liquor license.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Less than a month after opening in Hollywood's Sycamore District, Hideout Sycamore was forced to close by the health department. The restaurant announced Friday they would be closed until further notice due to "licensing issues."

The restaurant had operated out of a multi-use building that also housed Tartine, the popular bakery serving pastries, coffee and wine among other items. According to Eater, restauranteur Bill Chait (a minority partner in Tartine) offered the available space to bartender Julian Cox and winemaker Alejandro Marchesini, using Tartine's liquor license as a permit.

However, a health department investigation determined the license was only valid for Tartine, rather than the entire building. According to Eater, multiple appeals to the city to get the space properly approved were unsuccessful, leaving them with no other option but to pack up shop.

The inspection also forced the closure of The Finishing Gourmet, a delivery-only steakhouse operating out of the building that aimed to bring a fine-dining experience straight to your kitchen table.

"We appreciate your patience while we move into our new space and look forward to reopening and serving you again soon," The Finishing Gourmet said.

Hideout Sycamore had held their grand opening on March 19, following several pop-up demos to garner attention to the new cocktail spot.

The bar offered a slim, rotating menu of handcrafted specialty drinks, and was open for walk-ins only.
