Eleanor “Loni” Esther Cosmos ~ September 27, 1937 – April 1, 2021

Eleanor “Loni” Esther Cosmos of South Lake Tahoe died on Thursday April 1, 2021 after a year and a half quarantine from a staph infection, compounded with a heart condition. She is survived by her sons, Louis and Joseph Cosmos, her sister Graciela Fleming brother-in-law George Fleming, and sister-in-law Angie Silva, as well as dozens of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Milton Cosmos, brothers Manuel Silva, Armando Silva, Carlos Silva, Joe Guerra, and sisters Madeline “Nena” Garcia and Maria “Stella” Serrano.
Loni came from humble beginnings, born in Fontana CA, on a pig farm, and growing up as a summer laborer picking fruit. She would move on and graduate from San Bernardino High School in 1956, to become a secretary eventually working for the State of California Attorney General’s Office as a legal secretary to a team of lawyers for decades. After retirement she spent some time working locally at the Women Infants and Children office and volunteering at the South Tahoe Middle School as a bilingual Spanish aide. She loved her time seeing her friends at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church and at the local senior exercise classes. She loved to maintain her roses, and explore the views of Lake Tahoe, the forest, and even the rocks. She especially loved to spend time with her sons, and was always a listening ear for all. Her tacos were the best, and believed hot dogs should only have mustard.
Visitation of Loni will be at McFarland Mortuary in South Lake Tahoe, Friday April 16, 2021, from noon to 2:00 p.m. This will be followed by a 3:00 p.m. funeral service at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in South Lake Tahoe. On Monday April 19 at 1:00 p.m., she will be laid to rest next to her husband Milton Cosmos, at the Greek Orthodox Memorial Park in Colma, Calif., with a burial service to be performed then.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to St. Theresa’s Bread and Broth or Christmas Cheer of South Lake Tahoe would be appreciated. But Loni’s last wish was for everyone to spend time with the ones you love, mend fences with those you are estranged with, enjoy a meal, smile and laugh.
