Jefferson Davis County deputy killed while serving his community
The Jefferson Davis Sheriff's Office announced that Deputy Pat Barnes died in the line of duty on Saturday.
According to the sheriff's office, Deputy Barnes was responding to assist the Prentiss Police Department in a reported altercation at the Western Motel in Prentiss. On his way, Deputy Barnes lost control of his vehicle and collided with a tree.
"Deputy Barnes's sacrifice while in service to the citizens of Jefferson Davis County, no matter the span of time cannot go unmentioned," according to a statement from the Jefferson Davis Sheriff's Office. "We will honor him, his family and his memory and never forget what happened to this deputy on April 10, 2021."
Governor Tate Reeve also released a statement on Twitter giving his condolences to the deputy's family.
