AOC slams NYPD deployment of robotic dog in the Bronx

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez criticized the deployment of a new NYPD robotic dog in the Bronx this week.

The congresswoman, who represents parts of the Bronx and Queens, took to Twitter on Thursday to slam the use of the “Digidog” robot in the Wakefield section.

“Shout out to everyone who fought against community advocates who demanded these resources go to investments like school counseling instead,” the rep tweeted.

“Now robotic surveillance ground drones are being deployed for testing on low-income communities of color with under-resourced schools,” she added.

The robotic dog was tested at the scene of a home invasion on Tuesday, according to the New York Post.

The NYPD told the Post that the 70-pound robot has lights, two-way communication and cameras.

The NYPD tweeted about the robot on Thursday: "The NYPD has been using robots since the 1970s to save lives in hostage situations & hazmat incidents. This model of robot is being tested to evaluate its capabilities against other models in use by our Emergency Service Unit and Bomb Squad."
