NEW YORK, NY — Pride celebrations will take place in New York City during 2021, but not in the way we're used to.

Instead of a parade and other in-person celebratory events, NYC Pride unveiled a slate of virtual events and programming on Thursday that will occur during Pride Month in June.

In the announcement, NYC Pride also said the official theme for 2021 will be "The Fight Continues."

The theme reflects the "multitude of battles we've been fighting as a country and as a city," according to NYC Pride. The organization references some of those battles as the coronavirus pandemic, issues of police brutality, the murder rate for trans people of color, economic hardship, climate disasters, efforts to disenfranchise voters, and LGBTQIA+ rights being questioned in the Supreme Court.

"Within this acknowledgement of what we're fighting for and the challenges we face, we also must find the strength — together — to continue the fight," said Andre Thomas, NYC Pride Co-Chair, in a news release.
