NEW YORK — As the New York lottery is looking to move digitally, the state Gaming Commission approved on Tuesday a new rule to allow players to order scratch-off tickets on their phones.

Earlier this month, JackPocket, the first and only licensed third-party lottery app in the U.S., announced that New York users can use the app to order Powerball, Mega Millions, New York Lotto, Cash4Life, Win 4, Take 5, Pick 10 and Numbers tickets

Now, the only licensed courier in the state can include instant scratch-off tickets.

"The Jackpocket team applauds the innovative action to allow New York Lottery players to order their favorite instant games from licensed lottery couriers," Peter Sullivan, CEO/Founder of Jackpocket said in a statement. "This will not only substantially and responsibly grow the New York Lottery, but will do so with an emphasis on consumer convenience and safety. Jackpocket supports these regulations, which will make it simpler and more secure for those who want to play the lottery to do so from their homes. We look forward to working with Gov. Cuomo and the New York State Gaming Commission to help grow the New York Lottery in this new and exciting way."

The new app sends users a scanned photo of the tickets they purchased, but with the scratch-off tickets, users will have the actual tickets delivered to their home, 1010 Wins reports. The app does come with come conditions — any winning tickets under $600 will be deposited directly into the user's account with a 9 percent fee but anything over that will have to redeem it in person, according to 1010 Wins.
