A burned-out taillight caused a Ceres Police officer to follow an Oakland driver Monday evening which resulted in the recovery of a stolen Honda Civic and the arrest of the driver.

At 10:47 p.m., Officer Jesus Salinas was eastbound on River Road near Herndon Road when he noticed the missing bulb on a Honda Civic that passed him in the opposite direction. Officer Salinas made a U-turn and went after the Honda but the driver sped off. Officer Salinas caught up, activating emergency lights but driver Eduardo Garcia Delgado, 23, of Oakland, led in a short pursuit through residential neighborhoods. He pulled over when other officers joined in.

Delgado was booked for auto theft – the car was taken in Oakland – as well as possession of a stolen vehicle and evading a police officer with disregard to public safety.
