OAKLAND — A 28-year-old Richmond man was shot Tuesday night  in a busy commercial area near Lake Merritt,  authorities said.

He was in stable condition Wednesday.

The man was shot in the leg about 10:26 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Lake Park and Grand avenues in the city’s Grand Lake neighborhood.

After he was shot, the man was able to flag down a Piedmont police officer who was driving in the area and the officer gave him first aid until Oakland police and paramedics arrived.

The man told police he was shot by one of two men he had gotten into an argument with, but what the argument was about has not been released.

The suspects fled before police arrived and are being sought. It was unclear why the man was in Oakland.

Police were hoping to recover video surveillance  in the area that would help identify the suspects.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrests of the suspects. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426.
