Flying from Phoenix? Sky Train shuttle to T4 is closed temporarily. Here's what we know

Travelers using Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport's East Economy parking lot will ride a bus to the terminals for the next few weeks as the operator of the PHX Sky Train repairs the track between the parking area and Terminal 4.

Bombardier, the operator of the Sky Train, discovered the problem on Jan. 19 while the conveyance was closed for routine maintenance on the train.

"After a routine nightly inspection, Bombardier notified the Aviation Department that four ride plates on the running surface of the guideway need to be replaced. This is the area where the train wheels ride on the guideway," Heather Shelbrack, spokeswoman for the airport, said when reached by email.

"This is not a safety issue, since there are multiple redundancies designed into the PHX Sky Train system," she said.

Shelbrack said maintenance on the section between the East Economy lot and Terminal 4 is expected to take two to four weeks.

In the meantime, the airport is shuttling passengers to the terminals by bus. Signs direct  passengers to the appropriate pick-up locations.

The Sky Train is still running between Terminal 4 and Terminal 3 and between the East Economy lot and the 44th Street station. Those using the 44th Street station will need to ride the bus from the terminals to the East Economy lot and then take the Sky Train to the station.
