NEW YORK CITY – Snow early this week could be a forerunner for a deep freeze headed towards the city a couple of days later, forecasters said.

The double punch of winter weather will leave just a couple of inches of snow in the city, though more is expected on Long Island and Upstate.

Tuesday's wintry weather will be accompanied by temperatures as low as 31 degrees with wind chill making it feel as cold as 20 degrees, the National Weather Service warns.
