After being suspended for his actions in defending his brother Andrew Cuomo from sexual harassment allegations, CNN anchor Chris Cuomo has now been fired “effective immediately” by the cable news network.
CNN announced the news in a statement on Saturday: “Chris Cuomo was suspended earlier this week pending further evaluation of new information that came to light about his involvement with his brother’s defense. We retained a respected law firm to conduct the review, and have terminated him, effective immediately. While in the process of that review, additional information has come to light. Despite the termination, we will investigate as appropriate.”
Cuomo released his own statement as well following the termination: “This is not how I want my time at CNN to end but I have already told you why and how I helped my brother. So let me now say as disappointing as this is, I could not be more proud of the team at Cuomo Prime Time and the work we did as CNN’s #1 show in the most competitive time slot. I owe them all and will miss that group of special people who did really important work.”
The anchor was suspended on Tuesday after new information came to light about how he aided his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, battle the sexual harassment allegations that ultimately led to his resignation in August. A release of documents by the New York Attorney General’s office showed that Chris Cuomo used his journalistic sources to gather information on the women accusing his brother of harassment. He also offered to help the governor’s office prepare its defense and dictated statements for the then-governor to use. Chris Cuomo addressed the suspension on his SiriusXM radio show the following day, saying that “it’s embarrassing, but I understand it.”
Chris’ possible conflict of interest regarding his brother became a point of contention this summer when the allegations against Andrew Cuomo became public. (Multiple women — including several of Gov. Cuomo’s current and former aides — came forward to accuse him of behavior including sexual harassment, sexism and the creation of a toxic work environment.) Chris admitted on his CNN show Cuomo Prime Time that he had advised Andrew, but only as “a brother,” and insisted: “I never misled anyone about the information I was delivering or not delivering on this program. I never attacked, nor encouraged anyone to attack, any woman who came forward.”
After several years at ABC News, with appearances on 20/20 and Good Morning America, Chris Cuomo moved to CNN in 2013, anchoring a number of programs before debuting Cuomo Prime Time in 2018.
This was the predictable outcome but still makes me feel sad. I always liked Chris ever since his reporting/hosting days at ABC and I was a faithful viewer of his titular show on CNN. Quite disappointed in this man’s recent actions.
Same.
Best course of action for him would have been for him to have requested and taken a leave of absence himself until his brother’s scandal was resolved. Especially since he was helping him. He and his brother should have foreseen this as both are smart attorneys and have been in the political and media sphere for decades.
.
Tragic that they put family loyalty above all. It was so avoidable for Chris to have been tarnished by this.
My thoughts exactly
Bingo. Well said.
Ditto.
He didn’t have to request it. They OFFERED it to him and he refused. This is a self-inflicted wound.
I find it almost laughable that he didn’t think the whole truth would come out at some point. Hello, technology, people are literally everywhere now!
I’m also disappointed. Enjoyed watching him. My mom was so crazy about him. Hopefully he’ll return to broadcast journalism soon. I’m sure there’re other journalists who’ve done worst we just don’t know about it. Such a sad day. Wishing Chris and family the best!
Being an ASS? Was it offered and how do you know?
I agree.
I agree with Sonya.
That’s unfortunate for you and Sonya.
That’s unfortunate for Kevin
Just like his brother.

Yeah totally the same, he grabbed someone’s butt as a really distasteful joke… in public in front of her husband… It’s in nowhere close to what his brother was doing…
I said he would never be back twhen it was announced that he was suspended indefinitely. The writing was on the wall, particularly after the first iteration of his involvement with his brother’s scandal. It was untenable that he return and remain at CNN.
Cuomo had divided loyalties and professional ethics lost. But you have to consider the context and CNN’s culpability as well, given the unprofessional latitude they gave Chris during his Covid interviews/on-air interactions with his brother (he shouldn’t have been involved). CNN management turned a blind eye there, why would he assume that they wouldn’t continue to do so. Both situations were unethical; admittedly the defense of his bother’s sexual harassment issues was somewhat worse.
Quarantine Chris has a history of questionable integrity
Chris is an excellent newsman. I have always found him to be fair and accurate. I have never found him biased in his coverage of the news. I a very sad to see him leave CNN.
Me as well. I will not watch CNN again other than Jake Tapper. Plus they can get rid of Dana Bash.
I couldn’t agree more with you!
Thank GOD….. Somebody at the Corn Nut Network (cnn) figured out how to flush the toilet. ‘Turds Away’!
U also could use remote and change the channel, on you bud. If you dont like, CHANGE THE CHANNEL….
Foxer? Douche Bag.
Catherine it’s always you liberals calling names first smh. Grow up!
LGB It’s always the Trumpers to throw shade and blame first that liberals are name calling
@rand jooe,
And yet you are a fox fan. There is no end of madness to you people.
Yahoo shoot off some fireworks another Cuomo bites the dust. Typical liberal scmbg.
Sorry to see anyone become employed but he deserves it!! He used his resources at his employment to defend his sexual predator brother! To dig up dirt on the victims just amazes me!
U also could use remote and change the channel, on you bud. If you dont like, CHANGE THE CHANNEL….
Not everyone can display the integrity, honesty and humanity of your heroes Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh.
Says Normandy, with tongue fully in cheek. Good one.
Yes, because conservatives have been such a beacon of morality these last few years, with their devotion to the psychotic Trump cult and all. When conservatives start demanding people like Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity be let go for their lies and misinformation, then we can talk. Until then, the right needs to sit down and be quiet.
Preach Angela preach. The facts and those particular Fox hosts, along with several others aren’t even in the same room, let alone building.
Every side and every show has the stories they choose to cover and ignore. Not even in mainstream left and right shows and networks like CNN and Fox News, but even progressive YouTube shows.
The rise in crime is one example of something that shouldn’t be divisive. We shouldn’t be defunding police, we shouldn’t be allowing looting. There is no need for those things to be political.
No.
Well said Angela, every liberal I know and conversations surrounding this from the left has essentially been “what he did was bad and the firing was deserved but unfortunate”.
Meanwhile Conversatives put the worst of the worst on a pedestal and now are coming in droves on their high horses to say how bad this is…. very rich.
Well said!
sorry chris i hope you can come back i watch your show every nite now i will not
I would do the same for my brother . Who wouldn’t? If you love your brother.
Depends. If my brother did it, and I knew this, without a doubt, I’d be done with the predator.
I would too! Seems like they’re especially close so what was Chris going to do? Too bad. Smerconish might be taking his slot. And he is not very interesting IMHO.
Speak for yourself. I wouldn’t risk my personal moral code, reputation, job, or bring shame and scrutiny on my family to protect my brother had he been accused of such heinous things as his brother is. Especially when there seems to be an overwhelming amount of evidence to back up those accusations.
.
Maybe if it were a situation where I truthfully believed, based on some kind of trusted evidence, that my brother was innocent and being set up I’d do what CC did to help. However, I can’t see that being a plausible excuse here. Unless both brothers are in denial about everything that have done and are being accused of.
Could see him move to MSNBC.
I agree! MSNBC has become more popular than CNN anyway.
Meanwhile Tucker Carlson gets to stay. Who’s killed people through his disinformation campaign. I just see the double standards continually troubling.
It looks like lying, making up stories, disrepect to Jewish people and scientists are okay with no consequnce to the liars.
Different networks… CNN has journalist integrity and Fox does not
LOL!
OMG you’re kidding right? Journalist integrity? Put down your eggnog dude–you’ve had enough! LOL!!!!!!!!
LOL that’s funny
Lol you’re delusional if you think any of the major news networks have any integrity. Keep drinking your kool aid.
Fox, by their own admission, are not journalists. They’re “entertainment”.
The many times they’ve been taken to court for their misinformation and lying, their repeatedly relied on the fact that “no sane person would actually believe what we’re saying” as their defense.
For example: https://www.businessinsider.com/fox-news-karen-mcdougal-case-tucker-carlson-2020-9?op=1
Finally! way overdue – his credibility went out the window years ago and his over-the-top hypocrisy, arrogance and biased reporting finally did him in.
So long fredo.
U could use remote and change the channel, on you bud. If you dont like, CHANGE THE CHANNEL….
Bart stop hitting copy N paste. You look dumb.
You mean like absolutely everyone on Faux “News”?
In my opinion Faux “News” is MSNBC. Everyone on that network is a hate-mongering hack or a flat out racist.
Just like Brian Williams. They make a dumb mistake that they should’ve known better and if they just didn’t do it, then they would’ve been on a better career trajectory. But as others said, people at FOX do a lot worse, and they don’t have to deal with consequences
Chris will be missed. He’s what made CNN great. Wrong or right I do not blame him at all for helping his brother whom he loves. Family is family. ❤🤟🙏
Seriously? You’re obviously not following very closely. Chris was using his media contacts to dig up dirt on his brother’s accusers. You think that’s noble?
Sam don’t waste your time. These guys are cnn zombies.
Better than Fox News zombies
Shows CNN still has journalistic integrity unlike Fox which should have fired Hannity after his advising Trump and going onstage at his rallies
AMEN
Precisely!
Fredo will be fine. Now he can go to work for his brother, the Governor of NY.
Oh, wait…
One more reason to not watch CNN at all. I stopped when they canceled Kathy Griffin. If I watch any news, which is almost never, I watch MSNBC.
Still, he refuses to admit what he did was wrong and apologize for it. This is why I don’t have an ounce of sympathy for him. I feel bad for his wife and children because he’s put a spotlight on them that they didn’t ask for. You just know the conservative media is going to pounce on them. Not to mention what they are going to have to face from the people in their daily lives. He should never work in journalism again. We already have an entire “news” channel full of unethical and dangerous journalists and pundits. No need to help give more a seat at the table. Let him fade into oblivion.
I enjoyed watching the Chris Cuomo Show, I don’t think he should have been fired. I will not be watching much of CNN anymore
I’m sad that this is the outcome for Cuomo as I didn’t find him biased as some have said. That CNN would fire their #1 anchor speaks volumes about ethics and how management and the outside law firm saw things. Chris always said that it was family first for him so I’m sorry he was involved and Andrew allowed him to be inserted in his scumbag troubles. I wish Chris and his wife and children nothing but the best.
.
What I still can’t wrap my head around is that CNN let Toobin back, no way no how.
You honestly can’t see the difference between what happened with Toobin and what happened with CC? Really? Like, really, really?
Of course I can. Cuomo was completely wrong to do what he did and CNN fired him. Consequences. Toobin was literally caught masturbating on camera IN the workplace (his home due to Covid) and somehow he keeps his job. Both made poor ethical and journalistic decisions yet one keeps his job. Toobin should have been fired as well.
Toobin was not at that time doing having anything to do with the workplace when that occurred. He just ended up leaving his connection on and then went about his business.
It wasn’t something where he was deliberately doing something for someone to see.
“New York (CNN Business) Jeffrey Toobin returned to CNN as the network’s chief legal analyst on Thursday, eight months after he exposed himself during a Zoom call with colleagues at The New Yorker.”
Thank you Morisot – his workplace. I don’t know any workplace where that behaviour is acceptable whether it is a coffee break or not. Toobin was still on the clock.
The standard is that if you are conservative white man or white woman, you can say anything and do anything and get away with it because you have an R after your name and a skin color. When are the actual moral people on the right going to stand up? I don’t know if there are any. Exhibits Donald Trump, Matt Gaetz, Tucker Carlson.
You know, I come from an Italian family and I understand how he wanted to protect or help his big brother. CNN will not be the same without Chris. I think the way he handled this event and himself says a lot about his character. Hang in there Chris!
I hate this,. I loved Chris and his show. CNN was on pretty much on 24/7 in the background in my home. NO MORE. The only time CNN will be on is for Jake Tapper. CNN you lost at least one viewer. I hope more to follow my lead.
I will miss his tough interview questions and he speaks his mind on certain topics. I was surprised that he was suspended indefinitely, how long will this last? Not even a month or two before the firing.
It’s truly CNN’s loss. Chris Cuomo’s honest and direct approach can only be compared to Larry King in his earlier (late 80s) years with CNN. Rather than entertain the comments of a series of regular panelists (as most CNN anchors do), Chris regularly sought out the controversies and the people behind the words. He was never afraid to be wrong, just to have not asked all the right questions. He’s the best. And CNN? The very worst for their diminished view of the love and patronage Chris showed his family. He was nothing less than a shining example.
This gives me another reason not to watch CNN. I at least enjoyed Chris when he was on the air.
