Eagles WR DeVonta Smith is “week-to-week” with sprained knee

The Eagles will be without their first-round pick for a couple weeks in training camp due to knee injury.

The Eagles first-round pick this season, wide receiver DeVonta Smith out of Alabama, will miss some time due to a sprained knee, per The Athletic’s Zach Berman. At the moment there doesn’t seem to be much concern from the organization, as multiple reports reiterate that point.

Smith is a rookie and the Eagles starting quarterback, Jalen Hurts, is just in his second season and doesn’t have many games under his belt. Losing practice time now is harmful to their progress together. If the injury is only a couple weeks, as NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting, there would still be time to develop a connection before Week 1 though.

Right now the Eagles have Jalen Reagor, Travis Fulgham and Greg Ward as the veterans and likely starters without Smith. The hope in Philadelphia is that Reagor can stay healthy and take a step forward to make a strong young duo between himself and Smith.
