Only Vladimir Guerrero Jr, Ronald Acuna Jr. and Mike Trout have garnered more All-Star votes than Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr.

Tony Gwynn, back in 1999, was the last Padre voted to start in an All-Star Game.

That could change this season.

MLB on Monday released the first ballot update and shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. leads all shortstops with 701,251 votes.

The only players with more votes than Tatis in the majors: Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (857,956), Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. (834,287) and injured Angels outfielder Mike Trout (706,503).

At shortstop in the NL, Tatis — who on Sunday hit a go-ahead grand slam for his 19th homer — has a large lead over the Cubs’ Javier Báez (233,644) and the Dodgers’ Corey Seager (153,863).

Tatis is seeking his first All-Star selection.

No other Padre is in the top three in voting, although Manny Machado and Jake Cronenworth are in the top five at third and second base, respectively.

USD alum Kris Bryant of the Cubs leads all NL third basemen with 502,970 votes, followed by the Cubs’ Nolan Arenado (239,189), the Dodgers’ Justin Turner (198,807), Machado (188,836) and the Braves’ Austin Riley (181,570).

The race at second base is quite a bit tighter: the Braves’ Ozzie Albies (295,478), the Pirates’ Adam Frazier (201,886), the Dodgers’ Gavin Lux (167,421), the Cubs’ Nico Horner (165,135) and Cronenworth (159,760).

Eric Hosmer, with 175,206 votes, is fourth in the NL at first base, where the Dodgers’ Max Muncy leads with 405,609 votes.

Trent Grisham is eighth in the NL outfield group with 142,390 votes and Wil Myers (97,714) and Tommy Pham (70,966) rank 16th and 19th, respectively.

Myers is the last Padre to start an All-Star Game — in 2016 at Petco Park — but he was penciled in as the DH by NL manager Terry Collins.

Jake Peavy was also tapped to start the 2007 All-Star Game by NL Manager Tony La Russa.

Gwynn was voted in by fans in 1999 but was injured and did not play in the game.

Phase 1 of the fan ballot will conclude June 24, with the top three vote-getters at each position in each league (nine outfielders) continuing on to Phase 2. The All-Star Game is scheduled for July 13 at Coors Field in Denver.
