After a round one exit in the NBA playoffs for the Dallas Mavericks, reports of some growing frustration amongst the roster has emerged. This isn't surprising, in fact it's quite the norm for a team in the shoes of Dallas who continue to make the playoffs as of late but can't get over the hump.

The frustrations this time, via a report from Tim Cato and Sam Amick of The Athletic, may stem from players on the roster, including Luka Doncic.

Doncic’s relationship with his head coach, Rick Carlisle, has been publicly scrutinized since joining his team. It’s expected Carlisle will return next season, multiple league sources say.

During the season, it was believed Carlisle’s future could be reconsidered following the season, partly due to a belief Doncic had tuned him out.

Sources say some players have been frustrated with Carlisle after they lost playing time despite doing exactly what they felt he had asked of them, and for stiff rotation patterns.

Those thoughts may have changed now or even if they do remain the same it may not matter, as Mark Cuban has voiced his support for Carlisle being the Mavericks coach moving forward into next year.

“Let me tell you how I look at coaching,” he told ESPN. “You don’t make a change to make a change. Unless you have someone that you know is much, much, much better, the grass is rarely greener on the other side.” – Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.

Regardless of the thoughts the players may have for Carlisle, the Mavericks need to add some viable pieces around Doncic this offseason. Kristaps Porzingis has been a disaster and Tim Hardaway Jr. is set to hit free agency.

If the Mavericks want to get over the hump in the Western Conference as early as next year, the best course of action is to add around their superstar to keep him happy.
