Stan Kroenke's decision to pay Arsenal's Super League fines himself could yet impact on the club's transfer business.

The Gunners were one of six Premier League clubs to sign up to the breakaway competition before backing out amid huge criticism and fan backlash.

UEFA have since ordered the clubs to pay a £1.44m goodwill gesture whilst also withholding five per cent of their European revenue.

Kroenke, as well as Liverpool's and Manchester United's American owners, has vowed to pay the fines from his own pocket.

That could hamper Arsenal's summer transfer business however with finance specialists warning that such payments would be deemed as “owner funding” in Financial Fair Play calculations.

One expert explained: “If Kroenke pays from his own funds, that is deemed an owner expense.

“It means Arsena l’s next income will be reduced and will have an impact on the amount they are allowed to spend on players.

“While the Arsenal fans may be welcoming his decision now, they might not be so impressed if they discover they will have less to spend on players as a direct result.”

Arsenal added the likes of Thomas Partey and Gabriel last summer as Mikel Arteta look to bolster his squad.

Their performances this term though show how far they still have to go to catch the Premier League's elite.

And Arteta has urged the club's owner to spend now before the gap increases.

He said: “Time is catching up right now. It’s a trend, it’s years now that this has been happening.

“If the distance and the margins with the rest becomes too big, then it’s almost impossible to do it.

“I think we are still on time and we have put some very strong pillars and foundations in the last few months to do what we have to do."
