Former Republican AG Slams ‘Real Nutcases’ Conducting Arizona’s ‘Kangaroo Audit’

Former Arizona Attorney General and former Republican Grant Woods ripped the much maligned election audit being conducted in Maricopa County, which effectively swung the state for Joe Biden over Donald Trump in November.  It is being conducted by a Florida-based consulting firm called Cyber Ninjas, which had never worked on an election until now. The audit was already controversial when it began last Friday, and suspicions about its integrity only grew after former Republican state Rep. Anthony Kern, who was at the Capitol insurrection on Jan. 6, was seen counting ballots as part of the operation.

On Friday MSNBC’s Ayman Mohyeldin asked Woods about Kern and the audit.

“Oh yeah, it’s quite a collection,” said Woods. “It’s a lot of people who have dealt in conspiracy theories for a long time and certainly since the election. It’s certainly not an unbiased group.”

Woods highlighted the silliness of the count by pointing to the auditors’ attempts to test ballots for traces of bamboo because, according to one conspiracy theory, ballots were flown in from East Asia.

These people they’ve got down there, there’s some real nutcases down there, that’s all I can tell you. And the guy you mentioned [Kern], by the way, he’s counting his own ballot in a sense. He was an elector for Trump. So, he lost and they can’t get over it, and apparently they don’t want to get over it. They want to try to gin something up so they can point to this so-called audit, which is kind of a kangaroo audit coming out of kangaroo court, and then they’ll go to other states and say, “See, it was probably inaccurate there as well.” It’s easy to make fun of them when they’re looking for bamboo in the paper because some ballots were dropped in from China, and I’m all for that. But it’s actually pretty serious because it’s a real assault on our democracy.

The bamboo theory was roundly mocked on social media after one of audit’s overseers explained that Cyber Ninjas was scouring the ballots for the material.

Maricopa County already conducted an audit of the 2020 election results, and had two independent firms conduct audits as well. All three came to the conclusion that the results were accurate. Joe Biden won the state in a close race by 10,457 votes.
