Kelly Olsen (played by Azie Tesfai) is officially suiting up! The skilled fighter will fly high as Guardian in the second half of Supergirl’s final season — and TVLine has your first look!
Olsen is set to take up the mantle of Guardian, a role previously played by her brother James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks).
She’ll make her big debut in Episode 12, which is titled “Blind Spots” and will air Tuesday, Sept. 21. Tesfai co-wrote the hour alongside co-producer J. Holtha. Plus, Arrow alum David Ramsey directed the episode, which will tackle racial inequality, and see the actor appear on-screen as John Diggle.
Check out Olsen all decked out as Guardian below:
Supergirl will take a brief hiatus on Tuesday, May 11 and return with its final remaining episodes on Aug. 24. The midseason finale, titled “Fear Knot” (The CW, 9/8c), will see the Super Friends trek to the Phantom Zone to finally bring Supergirl home. The journey will test each member of the team as they are confronted by visions of their worst fears.
So far this season, we’ve seen the team deal with Kara’s absence in their own ways: Nia was forced to step up and unlock new aspects of her powers, while Alex and Lena had an opportunity to bring Supergirl home, but chose to save National City from an imminent threat instead. In the two-parter “Prom!” and “Prom Again!” Brainy learned to channel his nervous energy into sports. Meanwhile, J’onn focused his energy on tracking down potential leads.
So what do you think of Kelly’s new gear? Are you ready for her to step up as Guardian? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
Nice to see them go back to the traditional blue-and-gold of the comics character.
Brief hiatus? Lol it’s over 2 months
Another question: are the dreads supposed to be part of the suit, like Batwoman, or does her hair magically get MUCH longer when she is in hero mode?
Going with Arrow’s Mr. Terrific spawning dreads – as far as I know a time consuming hairstyle – everytime he goes out, I think the latter.
Yes, definitely a similar situation. Though his hair at least looked long enough to create those cornrows, given enough time. Kelly would need some serious extensions.
Wow, she actually looks good here. I’m sure as soon as the dialogue starts it will be super cringe though. This show is cheesier than a Dorito.
Maybe this will finally make her character remotely interesting, but did Supergirl really need *another* superhero?
Honestly, I’d forgotten Jimmy had even been on the show at this point, let alone that they had made him Guardian. And that was nice while it lasted. Ah well. At least the suit looks better this time. How great were those prom episodes, by the way? Almost worth sitting through the other episodes of this season to get to. Almost.
I thought the Guardian story ruined James Olson, so I am sorry to see it again.
No one likes the Guardian.
Also, isn’t Kelly a therapist now? She was a soldier, but that doesn’t mean she would be a good street fighting vigilante.
The writers have never shown much interest in her relationship with Alex – they were friends who were suddenly dating, then they said they were seriously in love (without showing any of that onscreen). The last thing Alex needs is to date a vigilante.
At least Kelly might be better integrated into the show now. I agree that the writers have never shown any interest in Alex and Kelly’s relationship. Its there because the show needed a lesbian couple but it hasn’t been given any real depth.
With Supergirl and Stargirl running through at least November, will most/all CW shows start the new season in January 2022?
She looks great!
Remember when these CW superhero shows were actually good. They are all just boring this year. Do we need yet another person suiting up? It is ok for people not to be superheroes.
OMG 🙄! I am beyond ready for this “woke” series to end!
And even MORE so to see Bat “Cancel Culture” Woman to go the way of the dinosaur!!!
All you have to do is stop watching and stop paying attention if it bothers you that much, kiddo.
Was stupid when James did it, just seem they are trying to hard to give everyone screen time. Good the show is done at end of season.
This is getting carried away with everyone of the characters having superpowers. It really diminishes supergirl and takes away from her role and what she brings to the show. Why bother having supergirl on the first place. Just lead with everyone being super which says no one is special. And there is nothing to aspire to.
