SB Nation Reacts: Pittsburgh’s defense

How confident are you about the Bucs in the field?

MLB: Chicago Cubs at Pittsburgh Pirates Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

This week’s edition of SB Nation Reacts has both a local Pittsburgh Pirates question and also several national questions. This is will continue to be the usual format, though we may add to this in terms of the number of questions as the season rolls on.

The first question was asked of our Pirates-only voters, and sticking with the confidence theme that was asked last week in regards to fan confidence in Pittsburgh’s offense, we asked this week about the defense. We had just 17 percent of voters confident in the offense last week, but I figured the defense confidence rating would be higher, and it was.

So we’re up to 38 percent with the defense, and I honestly thought it might be slightly higher. Out of offense, defense, and the still-to-come pitching, I figured defense would be the highest — and it still probably will be given how the pitching staff, in particular the starters, have looked so far this year — but I thought we might get close to 50 percent on that. I was wrong on the estimate, but right that it would be higher than the offensive confidence, though that’s hardly a bold prediction.

We also have two national questions this week that was asked of voters across the entire SB Nation MLB network and all fanbases, and I think they results were unsurprising. We asked our voters how they felt about starting extra innings with a runner on second and we also asked if voters have felt there’s been a difference in offense with “un-juiced” baseballs. Here are those responses.

That’s it for this week. If you’re already a member of SB Nation Reacts, check your inbox soon for this week’s survey. If you’re not and would like to be, head over here to sign up!
