Nevada's mask mandate will stay in place through the rest of the year.

That's according to state health experts who convened on December 2.

They say the mandate will be in force through at least early 2022.

They also voiced concern about the omicron variant.

They said they're worried about the number of mutations it contains.

This implies the coronavirus is rapidly evolving and changing, but the main concern with the omicron variant is that some of the mutations have previously been associated with certain bad traits.

Health officials claim vaccines are the still best defense against the omicron variant.

They also believe vaccines can slow down the replications of the virus.
