Brazos County health officials reported four new virus-related deaths 219 and new cases of COVID-19 among county residents on Monday.
The number of active cases in the county rose to 2,388 over the weekend, after dipping from an all-time high of 2,436 last week. Health officials said 3,704 cases of the virus reported by health care systems and testing centers were awaiting confirmation Monday.
The latest Brazos County residents to die after contracting COVID-19 were a woman in her 30s, two men in their 70s and a man in his 90s, health officials said. All four people were hospitalized, officials said.
To date, 320 Brazos County residents have died after testing positive for COVID-19, according to health department figures. Forty-five of those deaths, 14% of the total, have been reported this month.
Brazos County officials have confirmed 30,460 cases of COVID-19 in the county since the pandemic began more than a year ago.
A Texas A&M University website said the number of active, self-reported cases of the virus among students, faculty members and staff had fallen to 300 as of Friday, the last date for which figures were posted. The latest figures were down from a high of 1,635 cases reported on campus on Sept. 10.
Officials with the Brazos County Health District said 27,752 cases were considered recovered as of Monday; health officials classify all cases older than two weeks as recovered.
Fifty Brazos County residents were hospitalized Monday for treatment of symptoms related to the virus, officials said.
The percentage of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 in the state’s Trauma Service Area N — Brazos County and six surrounding counties — was 18.71% on Saturday, the last day for which figures were reported by the state. Other counties in the Brazos Valley region are Burleson, Robertson, Grimes, Madison, Washington and Leon.
There were 107 lab-confirmed COVID-19 patients hospitalized in the seven-county Brazos Valley region Monday, including seven patients who had been admitted in the past 24 hours, according to the Department of State Health Services. Thirteen COVID-19 patients were on ventilators in the region, and there were no intensive care unit beds available in the region. Of the 572 staffed hospital beds in the region, 29 were available Monday, according to state figures.
Across the state, 9,719 lab-confirmed COVID-19 patients were hospitalized Monday.
Brazos County’s positivity rate — the percent of positive cases to tests — was 8.11% on Monday.
Health officials said 375,763 tests for COVID-19 had been administered by Brazos County health care providers since the pandemic began.
There were 32 new probable COVID-19 cases reported in Brazos County on Monday. To date, health officials have reported 4,878 total probable cases.
Brazos Valley
The DSHS reported 2,499 cases in Burleson County on Monday. Of those, 155 were active; 56 Burleson County residents have died since the pandemic began, according to state figures.
Grimes County on Monday reported 4,496 cases, according to the DSHS website. There have been 97 Grimes County residents who have died from the virus, and 246 cases were reported as active Monday.
According to the DSHS, Leon County reported 1,764 cases on Monday. Officials said 171 cases were active; 59 deaths have been attributed to the virus in the county.
Madison County reported 2,055 cases on Monday. Of those, 70 cases were active and 40 virus-related deaths have been reported, according to DSHS figures.
Milam County reported 2,031 cases on Monday. Of those, 160 cases were active. Seventy-one Milam County residents have died from the virus, according to the state.
In Robertson County, there were 2,305 cases on Monday; 140 cases were active. There have been 61 deaths attributed to the virus, state officials reported.
Washington County was reporting 4,420 cases on Monday. Of those, 347 were active. State figures show 119 Washington County residents have died after contracting the virus.
The Waco-McLennan County Public Health District reported 704 active cases of the virus and seven new virus-related deaths in the county on Monday. To date, 639 people have died in the county after contracting COVID-19, according to health department figures.
Statewide
On Monday, 4,853 new cases of COVID-19 and 38 virus-related deaths were reported in Texas.
The total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the state was more than 3.3 million, according to state figures.
State officials said 62,980 Texans have died of COVID-19 as of Monday.
