The number of active cases of COVID-19 in Arkansas hit its lowest point in two months on Sunday, the Department of Health reported.

The state reported 12,494 active cases with 417 of them being new cases of the virus.

However, as the active cases continue to decrease, deaths continue to climb. The department reported 15 additional deaths of COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths in the state to 7,590.

861 Arkansans were in the hospital with the virus.

In a tweet, Governor Asa Hutchinson said, "Our united effort to reduce COVID cases is working. For those who haven’t gotten the vaccine, please consider doing so this week."

As of Sunday evening, 1,326,773 Arkansans were fully vaccinated which accounts for 51.9% of the eligible population.
